Tight points battle comes down to one event
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (October 14, 2008) Nine Hot Rod events in 2008 at three different tracks and it all comes down to this! Bieda’s Powersports presents the final and championship-deciding event in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series for 2008 this Sunday Oct 19th at Toronto Motorsports Park (TMP). Being the champion in the toughest sportsman series around not only carries bragging rights - the 2008 champion will receive $1000 cash, a custom embroidered leather jacket, a 2009 TNT Series Gold Card and (if qualified) a drum of race fuel. Cash payouts and leather jackets will be awarded to each of the top 5 racers at the yearend awards dinner – to be held on Saturday November 22nd – at Mick & Angelo’s Eatery in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Email lewis@tntsuperseries.com to reserve your seat.
One thing is for certain; TNT competitors will be bringing their best game with them on Sunday. Each round of eliminations is worth 10 points. Add in bonus points for an event win or runnerup – PLUS qualifying points – and you’re going to have one heck of a battle here! Current points leader Bill Elekes from West Seneca NY has three competitors all within 3 rounds of taking his lead away - Ted Barnes (Canfield ON), David Surmatchewski (Oakland ON) and JJ Jablonski (West Seneca NY).
Also still in contention for the championship are Paul Young (Alden NY), Wayne Sipos (Binbrook ON), Jamie Stoneman (Cheektowaga NY), Gary Stowell (Macedon NY) and Gary Kerl (Williamsville NY). “The TNT Series helped me get a handle on the setup in all types of weather and track conditions,” said Gary Stowell. “It’s the best way to prepare for a national event.” But the sleeper in that group is Paul Young. He hasn’t yet attended 3 Canadian races so by simply showing up on Sunday, the 40 attendance points alone will put him in 2nd place.
Of course, there are many other heavy-hitters in the TNT series who could very well be “spoilers” in the chase for the championship. Tony Platania (Rochester NY) for example, recently took home an IHRA Ironman in Stock eliminator at Skyview’s Pro Am event. He will be there on Oct 19th with his wheel-standing Hot Rod ‘69 Camaro.
Gates will open at 10am on Sunday, with qualifying at noon and eliminations to follow. This event will be run in the 1/8th mile format on a 7.00 index. For further event info, visit www.torontomotorsportspark.com .
