Gary Stowell wins TNT Super Series and earns spot in Race of Champions

First TNTSS event winner of 2011!

LANCASTER, NEW YORK (June 13, 2011)  The Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series had 29 cars on the ladder for first round on Friday June 3rd at Dunn Tire Raceway Park.  When eliminations finished on June 10th, it was Gary Stowell from Macedon, NY who marched through the field from the 7th qualifying spot to take the first event win in the 2011 TNTSS season.

As a result, he's earned himself a spot in the Trailer Shop/ERD Race of Champions coming up on Labor Day weekend.

Round one of the JanCen Motorsports presented event saw Gary defeat Orangeville, Ontario's Kevin Orr in a round decided by only .001 seconds.

Second round he faced 2009 TNTSS Champion Paul Young from Alden, NY.  In a rare red-light, Paul left the line early and Gary cruised to the win with a .009 package (.506 light 7.003 ET).

Quarter final match up was the 2010 TNTSS Champion Pete Maduri Jr of Tonawanda, NY.  Again with the starting line advantage, Gary ran a 7.015 to a losing 7.011 for Maduri.

Gary Stowell - photog Dale BoeruFast forward a week for the semi’s and Gary took out Binbrook, Ontario's Wayne Sipos in a double breakout 6.999 to Wayne's 6.998 ET.

On the other side of the ladder, Gary Saska of Ingersoll, Ontario was taking out the likes of Ted Barnes, Jeff Sobczynski and Scott Jahren to get him into the final.

Almost dead even on the tree (.511 Stowell to .509 Saska) Gary lifted crossing the stripe and ran a 7.03 as Saska slowed to a 7.07 - earning Gary not only his first win in the TNTSS but also a spot in the Trailer Shop/ERD TNTSS Race of Champions coming up on Labor Day weekend.

“I have to thank Steve McCarrick for being my second opinion for throttle stop settings and helping me in the late rounds,” said Gary.  “Also thanks to my son Collin who forgave running street eliminator to help me secure a win with crew duties and last minute weather updates.”

Sponsored by Enginehones.com, Gary has owned the Vega for about 15 years.  He started racing in a homebuilt 1967 Camaro in the early nineties.  After a couple of years, he upgraded to the Vega when his good friend, the late Dave Wood, gave him a deal he couldn't refuse.  The following year, Gary won 27 rounds in a row that led to 5 back to back Saturday night wins at Spencer Speedway.  Two track championships and three years later, Gary stepped into the world of throttle-stop index racing and according to Gary, he’s been addicted to it ever since.

“I run a limited TNTSS schedule as I still prefer to watch my daughter play competitive softball on most weekends.  My kids will only be kids for a short while.  There is always time to race when they are out and on their own,” added Gary.  "I also want to thank Joe Boniferro for sponsoring the series.  A win in this series really means a lot."

The event that was set for June 10th saw Fred Gross of Brampton, ON land in the number one qualifying position with a stout 7.000 elapsed time.  Eliminations however were once again cut short partway through round two.  Those eliminations will be completed on Saturday July 2 at DTRP during qualifying.

Next stop on the 2011 Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series is another New York state double-header - Friday July 1st and Saturday July 2nd at Dunn Tire Raceway Park.  Visit www.tntsuperseries.com for complete event details.
