Jeff Sobczynski Dominates and Wins TNT Super Series at Empire

First win in the TNTSS for seasoned racer!

Sobczynski rolled out of the trailer and made it look easy, posting a 10.903 on the board to take the $100 Hoosier Tire Canada #1 Qualifier Award.  In round one, he took out Billy Leber who went .012 red, Sobczynski running it out to be dead zero just for good measure.

Then he pushed Ryan Boniferro under the index with a .008 advantage off the line.   Third round he was .018 to Tyler Halleen’s .046 and that moved him into the semi’s where he had a bye to the final.

There he met up with Lakeview, New York’s Vince Gregoire and his beautiful 1955 Chev.   At the hit, both drivers were good with Sobczynski ahead by .005.   On the big end, it was Gregoire taking the stripe by .003 but running too fast at 10.894 to Sobczynski’s winning 10.903.

“I would like to thank Joe Boniferro, Ted Barnes and Charlene Lepp for all that they do to make the series what it is,” said Sobczynski in the Empire winner’s circle.  “The TNTSS is one of the best series I have raced in, all of the sponsors involved are great.  Even if you lose first round there are prizes to be won.”

“I have to thank my wife Melissa for always supporting me, my father Pete for helping out at the track every week.  My brother Mike, cousins Jim and Jason for all the advice.  And last but not least my mom for the texts on race day."

He was quick to thank TG Fab Racecars for sponsoring the weekend. "Thanks to Mike and Mike Jr at Jan-Cen Motorsports for their help with the motor work and Carl and Brian at Competition Transmission.

“And congratulations to Steve McCarrick on his retirement!” he added.

Sobczynski has had a tough 2017 so far, coming out on the bad side of some very close racing.  This day was almost no different - It just about ended early as they had a slick going down right after Q1.  They were able to plug it and stay in competition.

JJ Jablonski - photog Ron RigbyHe went on, “The car was deadly all day – running the number every round.  I finally got the monkey off of my back with a win in this series.”  Sobczynski has won lots of races but a win in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series has been tough to get.  He’s been to eight TNTSS finals before this – always a runner-up.  Now he can add TNTSS winner to his racing resume and lifetime qualifier for the REVS Full Throttle Powersports RACE OF CHAMPIONS.

Sobczynski has been racing this car since 2000 - It's been a family sport since before he was born. "It's what you do if you are a Sobczynski," he said. In fact, the 1967 Camaro was bought new from the factory by his late uncle Paul.  Originally a 250 six cylinder with a three on the tree, the car has evolved with a 400 cubic inch small block Chevrolet backed by a powerglide and is capable of 9.50’s at 138mph with body and paint done by his father Pete.
