WNY racer re-writes TNT Super Series record books

Pete Maduri Jr - photog Ted BarnesTONAWANDA, NEW YORK (November 9, 2010)  Domination is the only way to describe the season Pete Maduri Jr had in the 2010 Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series.  The Tonawanda, New York racer won an unprecedented five of thirteen events on his way to earning the 2010 points championship in what is known as the toughest sportsman series in the northeast.

"This is my seventh championship as a driver and unquestionably the most special," commented Pete.  But 2010 didn't start off all that well for the Maduri family.  They missed the first TNT race of the season working on their dragster for Quick 16 competition.  But things quickly shifted into high gear in June after his TNT win at Empire Dragway.  He then went on to win three TNT events at Dunn Tire Raceway Park and one at Cayuga Dragway - proving he deserves the title 2010 Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series Champion.

For Pete's efforts, he takes home over $3500 in cash and prizes including - an embroidered TNT championship jacket, pair Mickey Thompson tires, MSD ignition, Leaf Racewear driving suit, DRE diaper, Fast Eddie Racewear certificate, Gor-Den Racing Engines certificate and Competition Transmission converter tune-up!

Pete's championship winning race car is a 1975 Monza powered by a 358 cid small block Chevrolet making 500 horsepower and is capable of 1/8 mile elapsed times in the 6.50 range.  "The car was borderline flawless all year and the first person I need to thank is my dad (Pete Sr) for all of his hard work," added Pete.  "I truly believe my dad is one of the smartest guys in the country when it comes to getting optimal performance out of a race car.  He proved this in his Super Gas days in the 80s and 90s, during my junior dragster career, getting my full-size dragster to reach 150 mph in the eighth mile this year, and most importantly making our Monza repeat the index every trip down the track."

Pete Maduri Jr - photog Ted BarnesOf course, Maduri Motorsports is a family operation.  "I have to thank my mom Nancy and my sister Gina for all of their support.  They played a huge part in winning this championship."

Pete was also quick to thank the entire Halleen family for letting him use their Maverick at the August 20th race at DTRP.  "I was able to achieve the maximum amount of points at this race thanks to the fabulous job Ron, Rich, and Vanessa do with their operation.  Without the help of the Halleens at this race, this championship very well might not have happened."  In fact, this race was a turning point for Pete's championship effort.  It meant the rest of the field had their work cut out for them if they were going to stop him.

"I would also like to thank Joe Lilienthal at JSL Automotive for all of his help.  He has gone above and beyond for me and I will never be able to repay him for his efforts.  He has literally been out in the shop with my dad and I well past midnight on many occasions this season."

Sponsor on the Monza is Len Pimm, proprietor of both Rapids Bowling Center in Niagara Falls, NY and Tonawanda Bowling Center in Tonawanda, NY.  "These are state-of-the-art facilities and Len is constantly making improvements to them to keep the lanes and bar up-to-date."

Pete Maduri Jr - photog Ron Rigby"Finally, a huge thanks to Ted & Bill Barnes and Russ & Arlene Parker for doing an outstanding job of running this series.  Also, thanks to Joe Boniferro from Joe’s Transmission Service for all of his hard work and sponsoring the TNT Super Series.  This series is definitely going to continue to grow and begin to attract more out-of-towners.  Where else can you race locally on a level this competitive, with a schedule that accommodates everybody, and a guaranteed purse?  After racing a full year in this extremely tough class, I feel more confident than ever in pursuing national and divisional events for 2011."

Pete will be formally crowned 2010 Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series Champion at the yearend banquet - Saturday November 20th at Johnny Rocco's in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  Visit www.tntsuperseries.com for complete details or check us out on Facebook.
