TNT Super Series events cut short at Cayuga’s Victoria Day Weekend Challenge
Saturday’s eliminations to continue at Empire Dragway – Sunday’s event cancelled
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 24, 2011) The racing was cut short for the twenty-four Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series competitors that came to compete at Cayuga Dragway’s Victoria Day Weekend Challenge.
Saturday started off beautiful - powered by Bieda’s Powersports - with sunny skies and warm temperatures. Mark Herbold from Elma, NY sat in the #1 qualifying position with a 10.910 at 150.80 mph and took home the $100 Hoosier Tire Canada award.
But the day ended early when dew on the racetrack forced TNTSS officials to postpone competition until Sunday morning with only six cars remaining.
Then Sunday morning saw steady rain showers from about 8:00am on. Shortly after lunch, the entire event was called due to the rain. “There was just no way we’d get the race completed even if it stopped raining right now,” said TNTSS Director Ted Barnes shortly after cancelling the day’s event.
This means Saturday’s remaining eliminations will be contested in two weeks when the TNTSS heads to another 1/4 mile track - Empire Dragway in Leicester, New York. “We need to finish that race because each event is another opportunity to get a spot in the Trailer Shop/ERD Race of Champions,” added Ted.
Sunday’s event was cancelled altogether and will likely not be re-scheduled due to limited available dates.
Next stop on the 2011 Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series is a New York state double-header....Friday June 3 at Dunn Tire Raceway Park and then Saturday June 4 at Empire Dragway. Visit www.tntsuperseries.com for complete event details.
